How To Create A Tie

I love recycling and reusing old clothing; it's a great way to keep sentimental items around even after you outgrow them, and it's way better than throwing them away! So when my uncle was getting rid of a bunch of his old silk ties, my aunt offered to send me a few of the extras. I don't know what I'm going to do with the rest of them yet, but I turned two of them into tie bracelets, and I love them! So today I'll show you how to make a tie bracelet out of a necktie, and you don't even have to sew anything!

Recycle an old tie into a tie bracelet in just a few minutes! No sewing required!

It's so easy to turn an old tie into a bracelet, and there's no sewing required! Plus they're easy to make; I made two of these tie bracelets in under ten minutes! And the best part is, you only use the skinny end of the tie, so if you have plans to use the wider end for a quilt or a skirt, those parts will remain untouched!

If you don't have a friend or family member getting rid of old ties, you can usually find ties at thrift stores for pretty cheap!

How To Make A Tie Bracelet

Here's what you need to make your own tie bracelet:

  • a men's tie
  • a large button
  • sticky back velcro
  • fabric glue (or you can use a needle and thread if you'd rather sew it by hand)
  • scissors

Start by wrapping the skinny end of the tie around your wrist to measure for length. Once the tie is wrapped comfortably all the way around your wrist, add 2″ extra and cut the tie there.

With the back of the tie facing up, fold the cut end over once or twice to create a "hem"  and use fabric glue to secure it. Or, if you'd rather, you can use a needle and thread and sew the hem.

Flip the tie over and use fabric glue to attach the button to the front of the tie near the pointy end.

Then put a square of sticky back velcro on the back of the tie, behind the button. Stick the other half of the velcro near the other end of the tie (you can wrap the tie around your wrist to measure exactly where it should go).

Then wrap the tie around your wrist, stick the velcro pieces to each other, and you have an awesome tie bracelet!
