WD PiDrive Boosts Raspberry Pi's Storage to 314GB

Demand lots of storage for a Raspberry Pi-powered project you're working on? Western Digital may have just the thing.

In honour of Pi Day yesterday, Western Digital's WDLabs unit launched a new 314GB storage device (encounter what they did there?) engineered just for the Raspberry Pi community. Offering features like low-power USB operation, the WD PiDrive 314GB has a suggested retail price of $45.81, just Western Digital is offer a express-time discount of 31.4 pct (at that place it is again), for a total of $31.42 (math!).

The device is based on Western Digital's high-volume 500GB platform, only the company fabricated some design changes to optimize it for the Raspberry Pi.

"Customizations made to the drive's magnetic recording and electric system operating set-points…reduce the electrical power load of the hard drive on Raspberry Pi, while withal maintaining sufficient functioning to evangelize maximum USB data transfer rate," the visitor said.

The WD PiDrive 314GB is compatible with all WD PiDrive cables, cable kits, and WD PiDrive enclosures.

The launch of this new drive comes afterwards the Raspberry Pi Foundation but two weeks ago started selling a new version of its seize with teeth-sized reckoner. The Raspberry Pi three features a 1.2GHz 64-bit quad-core ARM Cortex-A53 CPU offering 10 times the performance of the original Raspberry Pi 1, with the same $35 cost tag as earlier models.
